DT - designing, making and evaluating.
DT Vision
Design & Technology will provide pupils at Westminster CofE Primary Academy with a vast array of opportunities to explore the making process from conception through to evaluation.
Design and Technology is made up of several different areas including Food Technology, Textiles, Construction & Electronics. Pupils will experience each of these areas through engaging projects as they progress through each year. The broad range of areas studied in design & technology are split evenly to give pupils a range of experiences.
Each of these projects shall be underpinned with the methodology of “Design, Make, Evaluate” so even when pupils are studying a new topic, pupils will be given the opportunity to progress in their learning.
Pupils will study different designers from a range of different genders, ethnicities, and cultures so they can see that anyone can be a designer. They shall evaluate existing products alongside their own work, taking influence from them to become intrinsic designers with a secure knowledge of materials, joining methods and manufacturing processes.
Food Technology is at the heart of our DT curriculum. This allows pupils to gain the skills required to make healthy, nutritious yet affordable meals, to prepare them for later in life.
