Music - learning through song and instruments.
Music Vision
Music is a creative and expressive subject in which children can develop their own identity, listen to and create music.
At Westminster CofE Primary Academy, we believe in making sure our children experience a wide range of activities due to their limited life experiences when they join us. We listen to music from around the world from a diverse range of composers and musicians, reflecting the children’s own cultures as well as the community around them. We explore the history of music, by looking at music from different eras, from classical to modern. Children are encouraged to form opinions and respect others’ views in their appraisal of music.
Children express themselves by learning to play tuned and untuned instruments throughout school. We believe that this will benefit the mental health of our children.
We have a strong culture of singing in our school. We encourage singing to happen across the curriculum to support children in their learning. We sing during school worship as an expression of faith and as part of our reflection.
We believe that learning extends out of the classroom and we run extra-curricular clubs based around music and singing. To develop the cultural capital of our children, we participate in the wider community events within our Trust and the local city.
